a day in the life of a grad student (2018)

Today was a quiet Monday for me. It was still a long day, of course, with meetings and class and Kapisanan work, but having submitted my CIP in the early hours of Monday morning was so good for my soul – and my body, which at this point was so sick of the effects of caffeine that I had to sleep 9+ hours everyday to compensate, with multiple naps on the weekends.

I’ve had the opportunity to read Night Shift when I was much younger, but there were only a few of the twenty stories that left enough of a mark on me that I remember details ten years later. Strawberry Spring is one of them, as was Quitters Inc., but my favourite by far is I Am The Doorway.

The Shining (1977) has always been one of those Stephen King novels that was on my radar but I never actually picked up when I saw it in bookstores. I’m kind of glad I waited to see it until I was in my twenties!

Salem’s Lot

Salem’s Lot combines two things that I’m very fond of in literature: vampires and small towns. I have very fond memories of this book, and when I reread it I was happily surprised to find that it holds up. Salem’s Lot delivered on the good, the unpleasant, and the downright terrifying aspects of what it means to live in a small town, plus vampires.
